The Joy of Carolyn's
Heart
|
My
daughter, Amalia Barrett...
What would we do without her? Close the doors
and go home.
No! She may not always have the doors open at
10:00 AM, but you can believe she has been
there the night before until midnight or
later if need be. Who does all the great
window displays? Who has all the merchan-
dising ideas inside the store? Who guides both
Carolyn and I on what we need to buy at market
to compliment the crafts our vendors provide?
Who does all those really special gift baskets
and gift packagings? This is all in addition
to being a retail vendor herself. The list
could go on and on, but you've got the idea.
The answer is Amalia, and yes she is the boss,
and if you don't believe it, just ask Vince.
Another face you see
around is my husband
and best friend, Vince. There is nothing
this man has not had to do since we started
this business. This is in addition to his
full-time job as Director of Finance with
the Taylor County School System. If you call
or drop in for tea - and Amalia, Carolyn
and I are out - don't be surprised if
he offers to seat you and serve you.
We are truly a family business.
Our son Glenn and good friend Ervin Young
have always been willing to lend a helping
hand.
Our grandchildren, Ethan and Whitney also lend
a helping hand when needed, and sometimes when
they are not needed. They are learning
valuable lessons about people, business and
retail.
Our artists and crafters have all become family
to us. Without their support and encouragement
none of this would be possible.
When I asked Carolyn about opening a co-op store,
she said, "You do it and I will help." If she
had only known the meaning of, "I will help."
Even after all the hard work and long hours she
puts in at her full time job, I can always count
on her, "My Special Sister!"
